There shall be a probationary period of thirty (30) calendar days for journeymen (sixty (60) days for apprentices), excluding shutdownslayoffs, with the right to extend such probationary period by mutual agreement. A new employee will be considered on probation until he has completed forty-five(45) days of work (or 337.5 hours of work for employees whose regular hours of work are other than the standard work day), within any twelve (12) calendar months. Upon completion of the probationary period he shall be credited with seniority equal to forty-five (45) working days. With the written consent of the Hospital, the probationary employee and the President of the Local Union or designate, such probationary period may be extended. Any extensions agreed to will be in writing and will specify the length of the extension. The release or discharge of an employee during the probationary period shall not be the subject of a grievance or arbitration. A twelve (12) month period of employment following an employees initial regular appointment within the Civil Service to a position. The probationary period is an opportunity for the University to evaluate new unit members. The first five hundred (500) hours of employment for every apprentice shall be a probationary period. During this probationary period the Apprenticeship Agreement with an apprentice may only be cancelled by the Company after advising the Committee. The Registration Agency shall be advised of such cancellations. It is understood that newly hired apprentices are subject to the provisions of Article 10.01(e) of the Collective Agreement. Any apprentice who has attained seniority as a production employee whose work performance or ability to learn is determined to be unsatisfactory during the five hundred hour probationary period will be returned to his production classification, subject to the other provisions of this Collective Agreement. New employees shall be considered probationary employees until they have completed the probationary period of sixty (60) days. During the probationary period an employee may be discharged at the discretion of the COMPANY with or without cause. Job Probation Period Letter Full Force AndAny employee who completes hisher probationary period shall commence hisher seniority as of the date of employment and hisher seniority shall remain in full force and effect and shall accumulate thereafter until terminated, all as herein provided. No employee shall be required to serve more than one (1) probationary period, provided such employee is rehired within one year. That period of time after initial appointment during which the employee has not attained permanent status in that classification. During this probationary period the apprenticeship agreement with an apprentice may only be cancelled by the Company after advising the Committee. The registration agencies shall be advised of such cancellations. The employee, from the date of hire or the date an ab initio trainee graduates following his or her successful completion of the Flight Service Specialist course given by the NAV CANADA Training Institute, or the abbreviated Gander Unit Specific Training program, and reports to his or her assigned location, shall be deemed a probationary employee until such time as the employee has completed twelve (12) months of continuous service.
